Osh could be the main point to start your trip to Pamir mountains. Osh
airport does not possess international flights, so you have to take change in
Bishkek internaional airport (Manas). Bishkek, formerly Frunze and Pishpek,
city, capital of Kyrgyzstan. Located in the irrigated Chu River valley, it is a
transportation and industrial center. Kyrgyz State University (1951), the Kyrgyz
Academy of Sciences, a symphony orchestra, and several museums and theaters are
in the city. In the mid-19th century the Uzbek khan of Kokand (present-day
Quqon) built a fortress here. The stronghold was taken in 1862 by the Russians,
who named it (and the surrounding community) Pishpek, a corruption of the
original Bishbek. The original name Bishkek was given back toth city in 1991 by
Kyrgyz parlament.
Access. Few European aircompanies has flights to Bichkek which
still has an international code FRU (formal Frunze). International airport Manas
is situated in 30 minuts drive from the city and has a good connection with Bishkek
by buses. The same airport you make change to proceed in Osh.
There are few every day flights to Osh from Manas airport.
It takes about $45-50 per ticket and 50 minutes in air.
Food. Most
of Kyrguz dishes are spicy. In Bishkek one can find Asian or European food with
a very reasonable prices, good prepared and served. In a smaller cities you will
be offered mostly local food like plauf, shashlik, shurpa, lagman, vegetables
and fruites which are very chip in this agriculture
country.
Accommodation. There are few big hotels in Bishkek with
variable level of services and prices- from veru chip hostels till fully
equipped hotels.
Money. The main currency is Som, which is
about 40 soms per one Dollar. In a big ciites you will find a lot of exchange
offices who change Dollars, EURO, Russian Roubles and Soms in any direction.
